Before your brainspotting appointment
Start thinking about the memory that you hope to brain spot. This is a memory that isn't so severe it stops you in your tracks whenever you think about it, but should be an emotionally charged memory that causes distress or anxiety.
Once you have identified the memory you would like to engage with, identify what emotion or emotions are associated with the memory using the Feelings in Action Wheel.
Now that you know the memory and it's associated emotions, take a moment to locate the memory within your body
To locate the memory: close your eyes and scan from the top of the head to the tip of your toes slowly while thinking about the memory and wait for the associated emotion to intensify based on the location of the memory
Once you have located the memory, from a scale of 1-10, what is the intensity of the memory that has been located, 10 being the most intense.
Record this information and be ready to relay to your brain spotting therapist.
Plan for a good nights sleep the day before your appointment.
